is it enough?
It’s an ache in my heart right now, and I know, in the hearts of many. Am I doing enough?
There is so gm much happening in the world - from our very own neighbourhoods to so many feuding countries far and wide. Human warfare. Inequalities and beliefs of what is ‘right’ are at a bigger divide than ever it seems, the planet unable to keep up with how we’re treating it and little change in people’s behaviour to change it, fear and hate that appears to be in everyone’s backyards.
I know this isn’t the first time the world has lived atrocities, but I often find myself thinking “Really? This [fill in the blank]? In 2025?” So. Much. Seems. Backwards. It can feel paralyzing to go about your day, pack school lunches, answer emails, water your garden, raise a child in this world. You wonder if you're just floating in your own little bubble, hyper normalizing what you can, while everything outside is hurting so deeply.
There’s a very small spectrum between being in that space of shielding self-preservation and in the know and have it affect your mental health. And, in terms of making an ACTUAL difference - how do we know where to start? What to do? And how do we do it sustainably?
My truth right now (thanks to talking it through with so many inspiring front line movers and sharkers who helped me out of beating myself up for feeling like I wasn’t doing enough) and the one I want to share is:
Sometimes, meaningful action is
Private.
Steady.
It looks like raising a child who learns empathy and love and kindness for humankind.
It looks like showing up consistently for your community.
It looks like learning to regulate your nervous system so you don’t burn out and can give of yourself to those who need you.
And that quiet doesn’t mean passive.
I admit that there often has to be a certain avoidance (from social media, the news) for my heart and head to stay together. But I am also learning that there is a difference between avoidance and intentional slowness. It’s subversive in its own way in a world that wants us either outraged or distracted.
So right now, you’ll find me here.
Raising a good human who knows his voice matters for long-game justice.
Sustaining emotionally safe spaces for our community to teach peace and regulation.
Rooting in resilience - gentle, inner body work, rest so we can keep showing up.
Galvanizing community.
I hope that whatever you’re doing, you see all your efforts, even the invisible ones. And that for those of you who are doing the most, that you find your groove in sustainable, relational, embodied action.
